Flowing Water on Mars! What!?!

Water on Mars!

Mars might have flowing water on its surface! We know this because of the discovery with the MRO spacecraft.

In the future, they want to send O'Ryan Spacecraft with humans. Unfortunately, it’s a very small spacecraft and can only someone smaller than 5 feet. They have even considered choosing a kid to go instead of an adult. It’s based on an interview process.

Colorado's Lockheed Martin's Engineer's MRO returned data that identified salts mixed in with the water.  Although scientists found that water on Mars evaporated very quickly, the salts keep it from evaporating into a gas. Since this discovery could make parts of this Red Planet able to support tiny forms of life, they wants to send a team to investigate mars.

Our very own Lockheed Martin Engineers in Fort Worth want to jump on board in creating this O’Ryan spacecraft. They are currently competing with Colorado’s Lockheed (from video). As you heard from the video, you just can't be tall! They are looking for a perfect size astronaut to send into space. Will it be you?

Their Challenge: Lockheed is accepting video submissions from the perfect "fit" (literally) into their next spacecraft. You need to convince Lockheed that you are the perfect fit to take on this mission and travel into space?

Criteria: Video Submissions must include an interview with detailed reasons as to why you are the perfect fit to blast into space. These reasons must include your knowledge of matter and what STEM habits of mind you possess. Be sure to explain examples of when you used those STEM habits.

Knowledge of Matter

What are some physical properties of water?

What tools can we use to measure the properties of water?

What state of matter is water?

Tell me about the shape that water takes?

What are physical properties of salt?

What are ways to measure physical properties of salt?

Explain what matter is and why it’s important?

Constraints: The video must be at least 1 minute long.
The video may not be longer than 3 minutes.

Students were given an assignment this weekend to make a video to explain why they should be chosen to go to Mars. We will watch these videos next week and decide the winner.

**Reminder- Field Trip is next Tuesday! We also have two half days scheduled for next week!**

Congrats to Arshyan for being nominated to our
Cannon Hall of Fame!
